You can of course drive to Albury and visit the Information Centre near the Railway Station for maps and brochures and comprehensive advice for the staff at the Centre. Day 1 Monday

Arrive in Albury on the train from Sydney at 3pm.

Overnight: Albury Hotel/Motel

Day 2 Tuesday (B,L) Beechworth –Eldorado

Drive to Beechworth.

Sit in the old courthouse where Ned Kelly was tried.

Burke Museum

Visit Beechworth with its old fashioned shops

Beechworth Telegraph Station

Buy a pie at the Beechworth Bakery, which is renowned for the taste of the pies it cooks.

Walk around the old fashioned streets and enjoy shopping in the country stores.

Eldorado Tours

Drive to Eldorado to see the Eldorado Museum and the gold mining dredge.

This town also has a history with the Ned Kelly gang.

Visit the McEvoy tavern which is renowned for being the smallest pub in Victoria. You can enjoy a beer if you are thirsty.

Return to your hotel.

Overnight Albury.

Day 3 Wednesday (B,L) Echuca - RutherglenCampbells winery has great wines

Make an early start and drive to Echuca.

Echuca was once Australia's largest inland port. It lies on the junction of three rivers.

See the old wharf and the paddle wheel river boats.

Shopping in the style of last century in the many interesting shops.

Sail up the Murray River on a Paddlesteamer.

 

Drive back to the wineries near Rutherglen and sample some wines at one of the many wineries.

Visit Morris Wines for a port.

Return to your hotel.

Overnight Albury.

Day 4 Thursday (B)

Drive to Bandiana and visit the Army Museum to see the largest and most diversified Military Museum in Australia. There are guns, tanks, vehicles, motor cycles, uniforms, medals and much more. This visit has to be booked at least a day in advance.

Return to your hotel.

Day 5 Friday (B)

Free time to wander around the town until you take a taxi to the train station to catch the 11 am train to Sydney.

 

To do this tour

Get together with three friends and come to Albury on the train on a Monday, leaving Central Station at 8 am and arriving at Albury around 3 pm. Two, three or four days are then spent investigating attractions far different to Sydney, with Ned Kelly history, wine making, paddlesteamers, and gold mining being some of them before you board the train at around 11 am to return to Sydney.
